We would like to recommend the following destinations for the trips:

Gyergyószentmiklós / Gheorgheni

The town is situated on the rubble hill of the Békény Stream, at the eastern edge of the Gyergyó Basin. One of the explanations of the origin of the name Gyergyó is that when some of the forerunners of the Hungarian tribes caught sight of this large basin, they shouted ’Gyer, jó!’ (Come, it is good!) and so the name stuck.

According to written documents the town already existed in 1332. After the great Székely uprising of 1562, most of the inhabitants of Gheorgheni became the serfs of the Lázár family. In a document from 1567 there were only 10 free Székely lots and 78 serf families. They could not buy their freedom until 1599. In 1661 Ali pasha ravaged the town. In 1668 Armenians from Moldova settled here and began to improve the town’s trade and helped the town become more urbanized.

In 1685 the Armenians of Gyergyó and Csík united with the Catholic church while keeping their own rites. The Baroque Catholic church was built in the middle of the 18th century. The Armenian Catholic church and the stone wall around it was built between 1730-1734. In the 19th century Gheorgheni became one of the most important commercial centers of the region. The main square is in the heart of the rown, where the market used to be. A statue of Szent Miklós (Saint Nicholas), recently made by Emil Burján, is on display in the park. There are several Baroque houses in the town, e.g.: the old, Catholic parsonage, the Armenian parsonage, the house of the Lázár family, the Romfeld House. The town’s grammar school was built on the large area of the former market, and was opened in 1908. It is called Salamon Ernő Secondary School and the language of education is Hungarian.

Gyergyóditró (Ditrău, Dittersdorf) is one of the large communes of the northern part of the Gyergyói Basin. In the 19th century, Gyergyóditró was considered the richest village of Transylvania because the water of the then-fashionable bath, Borszék sprang at its border.

Gyergyóditró is situated at 742 m altitude on the northeastern periphery of the Gyergyói Basin. It already had 10 water-saws in the 1780s and it used to possess forests and pastures on the area of today's Borszék. The commune lies 13 km far from Gyergyószentmiklós, 7.5 km from Szárhegy.

Gyergyóditró is the only village of Szeklerland after which a mineral: the ditroit was named (in 1866). With its varied petrographical construction, the Gyergyóditró country has drown the geologists' attention upon itself: the eleolitsyenite (ditroit) occuring here is an interesting dash of colour of the Carpathians.

Gyilkos-tó / Lacu-Roşu

Red Lake (Romanian: Lacul Roşu) or Killer Lake (Hungarian: Gyilkos-tó) is natural storage lake at 980 m altitude, near Békás / Bicaz Gorges, in the Eastern Carpathians chain, at approximately 26 km from Gyergyószentmiklós / Gheorgheni city, on the national road 12/C, in the resort with the same name. The lake is formed recently, in the summer of 1837. Then, after some abundant rains, a great quantity of rocks and debris slided from the Northen side of the Killer Rock, blocking the Kis-Békás / Bicajel river. The water have accumulated and formed a natural storage lake. The unusual magic is amplified by a lot of empty truncks of the old fir trees, which come out from the water passing through the image of Little Suhard reflected in the lake mirror. The name of "Red Lake" comes from the reddish alluvia deposited in the lake by the Red Creek.

Bicaz Canyon
(Békás-szoros / Cheile Bicazului)

The Bicaz Canyon is one of the most spectacular places in Romania, located in the north-east part of the country, in Neamţ and Harghita counties. The canyon was dug by the waters of Békás / Bicaz River and it serves as a passageway between the Romanian provinces of Moldova and Transylvania. It is a noted location to see the wallcreeper, an uncommon cliff-dwelling bird. The road along the 8 kilometres of ravines, often in serpentines with rock on one side and a sheer drop on the other, is one of the most spectacular drives in the country. Also within the Cayon is Gyilkos-tó / Lacu Roşu (the Red Lake), with its traditional cabins, hotels, and its famous lake (situated at 980m altitude) caused by a landslide in the 19th century.

Besides our offers we can provide plenty of attractions for our guests since the area we invite you is rich both in natural and historic sights.

We are looking forward to meeting you!
